Every year, a bunch of swifts, on their migratory route, stop off to perform a gorgeous show for we lowly humans at a school in NW Portland. I've heard about this awesome phenomenon for years now, and even though I've lived in Portland my entire life, I've never been!
Last week, D and I remedied that situation. We grabbed a blanket, some beer and wine, and joined our friends on the massive lawn to watch these glorious birds fly around. There was a hawk chasing them at one point, and the crowd got very involved as we cheered the swifts on from being captured and eaten. If you have a chance to go and see this awesome sight, please - do! You won't regret it.
The sunset was amazing that night, so I had to take some pictures of it. And now, the swifts:
Although it's difficult to see, the birds are funneling into the chimney at a rapid pace.
