A while ago, I put in a request for an energy-saving kit from a local eco-conscious company in Portland. It was completely free; all I had to do was offer a legitimate address and answer a few easy questions (had I received one before, would I install it upon arrival, etc.).
I just received the package in the mail last Friday. I opened it right away, with excitement. Firstly, because it's always fun to receive things in the mail. Secondly, because I wanted to see what was in the package!
I received four Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs and a water-saving showerhead. Unfortunately, there were no instructions in the package, so the showerhead is currently waiting to be installed, but it was great to have some eco-friendly lightbulbs around.
I found out about this via my monthly power bill, but I'm sure other local companies do the same for their energy-conscious patrons. If you have luck finding a similar program, please let me know and I'll update it on this post!
