3 Years Old Part III

Welcome to my 3rd Anniversary Week! I will celebrate by finding and re-posting old articles I wrote and by offering a giveaway. Here is another re-post, from December of 2008.

And, don't forget to enter my first giveaway! See details here. I will name the winners on Friday morning.

A Few of My Favorite Things
*Note: A few of these favorites have changed, obviously, due to my gluten-intolerance and my discovery of newer places (and because I'm fickle!), so I have written my "updates" next to the each item.

Original Post Date: December 5, 2008

I can't believe that it's December already. Lights are adorning peoples' homes, and candy canes are showing up in stores. Hmmm...maybe it's time to start baking?!

This post is actually going to be about a "few of my favorite things" (I've always wondered why that song was sung around Christmas, but I'm not going to question it, and instead, I'll just use it in my posting). I usually post when something really catches my eye, but this time, I'm going to give you my Top 11 List of vegan paradises. Of course, they will all be in the [Pacific] Northwest, because that's where I live, but I'm sure there are cool places elsewhere. I just haven't been to them. This is not in any order but the order in which I thought of them. Enjoy!

-Hot Lips Pizza (their squash sauce during the fall and early winter is absolutely divine)
[update: now I eat my pizza at New Cascadia Traditional - their gluten-free, vegan pizza and cupcakes are DELICIOUS!]

-Paradox Cafe (try their vegan french toast)
[update: I haven't been here in a long time, but I love love love their corn cakes; always vegan and usually gluten-free]

-Proper Eats (local vegetarian and vegan grocery and restaurant in St. Johns)
[update: I don't go here as often as I used to because I don't live as close, but I do miss their menu and amazing tempeh reuben -the BEST IN PORTLAND, by far]

-Food Fight! Vegan Grocery (it’s nice not to have to look at every single ingredient on their groceries because it's all vegan)
[update: still a good place to get your vegan groceries]

-VooDoo Donuts (needs no explanation; their vegan doughnuts are by far the best I've ever had)
[no update, but wish I could still eat these *sad face*]

-Vita Cafe (love their tempeh BLT and hot dog with chili)
[update: my new favorite here is their chicken fried "steak" with mashed potatoes and almond gravy; it's love at first bite, every time]

-New Seasons grocery stores
[no update; they will always have my undying devotion]

-Papa G's Vegan Organic Deli (omg, their mushroom stroganoff is purely amazing)
[update: can't eat their mushroom stroganoff anymore, but their raw wedge salad is effing delicious!]

-Sweet Pea Bakery (it’s lovely to be able to eat baked goods again and enjoy so many different milk alternatives)
[update: ahhh, I no longer eat here for this reason, but I loooove Back to Eden in the NE instead!]

-Blend Coffee House (I love the cinnamon rolls that they offer, plus the atmosphere is just awesome)
[update: I no longer drink coffee but instead I enjoy a really lovely tea house in NW Portland, called Tea Chai Te]

-Multnomah County and Clackamas County Public Libraries (both have so many resources to select from when deciding what to eat next and to make sure that I’m getting all the nutrients I need)
[update: I'm a nerdy librarian through and through; no update here! READ!]
