Klamath Falls

It may seem like I travel a lot by this blog, but really I just have been to two places since becoming a vegan, and both seem worthy of blog entries. Klamath Falls, located in southern Oregon, is about as far from being a vegan-friendly city as, say, Dallas, TX (that's a total stereotype; if it's not true, be the one to set me straight, please!). I have not had the best luck in eating out since I got here yesterday. And I'm here until Monday. Great, just great. The good news: if worse comes to worse, I can always go into a grocery store and buy some ingredients. But I hate that I have to do that. I love that in Portland, I have the option of vegan options anywhere I go. Even if the menu doesn't have something specifically vegan, every wait staff I have ever encountered was more than happy to accommodate my special diet any way I asked. What a disappointment, then, that this morning at a diner I asked for veggies from an omelet and some hashbrowns and the waitress said the cooks just wouldn't do it. No questions, no apologies, just a flat-out refusal. I've also now gotten chewed out by a few people lately that I'm basically refusing to eat what has been provided on this earth for me. Well, I have a few things to say about that, but I'm keeping this a family-friendly blog, so I won't write them here. "Moral" of this blog: I'm just ready to go back to Portland, and to my apartment and my special farmers' markets, where I can eat to my little vegan heart's content.
